New album features vocals from Michael Tait, Phil Joel, and Peter Furler
On the heels of last year’s blockbuster Newsboys United reunion tour and the current hit single, “Greatness Of Our God,” Christian music supergroup Newsboys has unveiled their latest FairTrade Services which released on Friday, May 10, 2019. United, the groundbreaking recording bringing together former members Peter Furler and Phil Joel with Michael Tait, Duncan Phillips, Jeff Frankenstein and Jody Davis, was produced by Furler and Geoff Duncan. Furler — a driving force behind such iconic Newsboys hits as "He Reigns," "Entertaining Angels" and "Shine" — also co-wrote four of the album's 10 selections.
In addition to “Greatness Of Our God,” United is highlighted by the funky groove of “Love One Another,” featuring guest vocals from former dcTalk member Kevin Max; the worshipful “Set Me Ablaze,” originally recorded by Bethel Music; and the soul-stirring praise anthem “Symphony,” among other selections continuing Newsboys’ rich history of making music that resonates with fans of all ages.
Newsboys United have played more than 150 shows together since reuniting, recently wrapping their headlining role on the 43-city Winter Jam Tour Spectacular, Christian music's largest annual tour. In addition, the band is currently on the road with multi-Platinum®, multi-GRAMMY®-winning singer/songwriter Michael W. Smith for Surrounded & United: The Tour, a night of worship featuring hits spanning both artists’ unparalleled careers.
Among the most influential bands in Christian music history, GRAMMY®-nominated, Platinum®-selling Newsboys have sold more than 10 million units, amassed eight Gold® certifications, 33 #1 radio hits, four GRAMMY® nominations, two American Music Award nominations and multiple Dove Awards. Since their formation in Australia more than three decades ago, Newsboys have released 23 recordings and their signature songs include “We Believe,” “He Reigns,” “Miracles,” “Born Again” and the Platinum®-certified mega hit, “God’s Not Dead.”
Our Review of United...
With songs that include Greatness of Our God, Symphony, and This I Know which have been released well before the album's release date, the album really shows how far Newsboys have come with their music. Remember in 1990 when Newsboys first debut with their album Hell is for Wimps? Don't get me wrong, the album was clever for its time. But 1992, is agreed by everyone, was the year that everyone came to love Newsboys and their music. That was when John James was still around sharing lead vocals with Peter Furler.
But this is the first time the band has released an album with its current lead vocalist and its past two vocalists, Peter Furler and Phil Joel.
Greatness of Our God is a song that talks about the greatness of God and also God's grace and goodness. Symphony talks about how our lives are a song that's being sung as a symphony which glorifies God. This I Know speaks of the promises of God since our beginning. After everything that happens in this world, we can still have hope. Only the Son (Yeshua) speaks of our worship to God. It talks of how we worship in spirit and truth and God holds the keys to our hearts. Other songs on the album include Love One Another (featuring Kevin Max), Never Setting Sun, Beautiful Story, Worth Fighting For, Fearless and Set Me Ablaze.
Of course, our recommended download on this album, has to be Greatness of Our God. The song especially showcases the best vocals of Michael Tait, Phil Joel and Peter Furler. Overall, the album keeps you on the edge of your seat wanting more from this iconic group.
