Zacharias was popular among Evangelicals and conservatives. Among other circles, he was a leading figure among Christian Apologists, which is a branch of Christian theology that defends Christian doctrines against objections. He was also a popular Christian author and teacher and was best known through Ravi Zacharias International Ministries (RMZI), which he founded in 1984.
"(Ravi) saw the objections and questions of others not as something to be rebuffed, but as a cry of the heart that had to be answered," said Michael Ramsden, president of Zacharias International Ministries.
"People weren't logical problems waiting to be solved; they were people who needed the person of Christ. Those who knew him well will remember him first for his kindness, gentleness, and generosity of spirit. The love and kindness he had come to know in and through Jesus Christ was the same love he wanted to share with all he met."
Zacharias leaves behind his wife, Margie, daughters Sarah and Naomi, son, Nathan, and five grandchildren.

Christian Music artists share their story
CCM artist Jeremy Camp posted on Facebook his thoughts. "It's hard to put into words how much heaven gained today! Our family has been reading through 1 Peter together and chapter 3:8 says, 'Let humility describe who you are, as you dearly love one another.' For all the many great things that Ravi could be remembered for, his humility and love stands above it all. You will be missed Ravi, but we will see you again!"
"I am so grateful for who Ravi was and what he did with his days on earth." shared Brett Younker, who is worship leader from the band Passion Music. "His voice will be missed, but I pray God would raise up an army of men and woman who love the truth and want to proclaim it in their day. We are better because of Ravi's life. Well done good and faithful servant."
Acclaimed artist Michael W. Smith also posted on social media about Zacharias's sudden death saying, "Ravi... you will be missed my friend. What an extraordinary life you have had. Thank you!!!! See you on the other side."
